Facebook rollout mobile app update

Mark Zuckerberg recently stated the Facebook mobile apps were a top priority for 2012, and in true form, a roll-out is underway with a new look to photos appearing larger within a post, similar to Instagram which the company recently acquired for $1 billion.

Dropbox doubles referral space!

Dropbox has doubled the storage space for referrals to the service.
When your friends download Dropbox by way of invite you will both now receive 500mb, doubling the previous 250mb, and with a maximum of 32 referrals that’s a huge 16gb on top of the initial 2gb.

The announcement comes quickly after news of investment from U2′s Bono & Edge and the possible launch of Google’s GDrive!

London tube live updates added to Google Maps

Google has added London tube live updates to Google Maps.
The updates can be accessed via PC, Mac or Android device (smartphone/tablet).
Earlier in the year nationwide train timetables were added and just last month traffic data was added signalling further the demise of the dedicated satnav unit.

The BBC has confirmed its plans for a pay per download web store which will open new and archived BBC content.
Current TV shows are only available within a 7 day window through the iPlayer service after which most never see the light of day again. The new service will make content purchasable to own in digital format.

OnLive app breaches Microsoft Licensing

Microsoft is working with OnLive to address licensing issues with its new Windows 7 hosted desktop app available on iPad & Android tablets. The app features a Windows 7 desktop with Microsoft Office applications Word, Excel & PowerPoint, alongside Adobe Reader and Flash enabled browser, the service is free with 2gb of cloud storage, with monthly Plus & Premium plans with extra functionality and storage.
Unfortunately the app is currently only available in the US.

Google launches Google Play store

Google is set to launch the Google Play Store in the next few days to Android devices running 2.2 and above and on the internet for PC’s. The store combines apps, books, movies and music to be more in tune to Apples iTunes.

Google to add “do not track” button to Chrome

Google is to add a “do not track” button to its Chrome browser. It will allow users to block information gathered about them from third parties which will restrict the amount to targeted advertising displayed towards them.
Google has come under fire recently over its privacy policies and also its announcement regarding a flaw allowing circumventing security within Apple’s Safari browser to gather information about users using their services.

Apple is nearing the 25th Billion download from its iTunes & app store, taking under a year to add 10 billion to the count.

Norton 360 updated to Version 6

Symantec has released its version 6 update to its premium internet security product Norton 360.
If you already use Norton 360 here’s how to update: Open your main Norton window, click the “Support” link in the top right corner and click “Check for new version” from the drop down menu, this will open your browser and provide a link to download the new version, just follow the prompts.
