Amazon Rumoured to release Kindle Fire 2

Amazon is rumoured to be preparing a new larger 9″ Kindle Fire 2 tablet due for the Christmas period. No specifications have been announced as yet. The success of the original 7″ Kindle Fire tablet stands Amazon as the major competitor to Apples iPad, while Apple is rumoured to be preparing an iPad mini also of 7″ proportion to rival the Fire and lower priced Android tablets.
As yet there has been no indication of a UK release for the tablet, although Amazon is tipped to release a new Kindle e-reader this summer with front lighting added for night time reading, initial concerns are a drain on battery life.

iOS 5.1.1 released

Apple have released a new update for iPhones & iPads, iOS version 5.1.1

And if you haven’t already been prompted by your device, then head to Settings > General > Software Update and follow the prompts, if your battery level is less than 50% you’ll need to plug in to complete the update!

Galaxy Tab 2 gets UK April launch

Samsung’s latest tablets, the Galaxy Tab 2, has finally received a launch date for the UK, with the tablets available at the end of April, delays caused by compatibility issues with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich moved the launch back from March.
The tab will be available in 7″ & 10.1″ sizes.

Amazon has started accepting pre orders for the new touch screen Kindle, the device is priced at £109 for WiFi & £169 for 3G.

Windows 8 October launch???

A report claims Microsoft is to release its Windows 8 operating system this October, 3 years after the release of Windows 7, in a bid to maximise tablet sales running up to Christmas.
Windows 8 is the first OS for Microsoft to be supported on ARM processors as well as Intel chips, designed for touch screen desktop PC’s and tablets.
Nokia is believed to be working on a new tablet, rumours suggest a “Lumia” branding inline with its latest smartphone which uses the Windows Phone 7 OS, and likely to use Windows 8 after its recent partnership with Microsoft.
Last month Microsoft released a public BETA version of Windows 8 with over 1 million downloads recorded in the first week!

Red Button delay to non TiVo Virgin Media customers

Virgin Media customers NOT on the TiVo service will have to wait until summer to receive the Sky red button service, Virgin is currently working with Sky to bring the service to its V, V+ & V HD set top boxes.
TiVo customers already have the red button service with its recent launch on the platform, and red button coverage will be available this weekend on Sky Sports F1 for the opening race of the season.

BBC Project Barcelona

The BBC has confirmed its plans for a pay per download web store which will open new and archived BBC content.
Current TV shows are only available within a 7 day window through the iPlayer service after which most never see the light of day again. The new service will make content purchasable to own in digital format.

Samsung Sandwich 4.0 announced!

The Samsung Galaxy S2 smartphone has finally had a confirmed date for the roll out of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, from 19th March, subject to approval from the network operators, users in the UK will be able to update.
It has taken over 6 months for the upgrade to be made available, this is ahead of the announcement of the Galaxy S3 which is believed to be coming soon which will rival the expected new iPhone this summer.

New Microsoft console may be disc free??

Microsoft is said to be readying its new console announcement for the E3 event in June. With a possible release in 2013, the new console has been rumoured to be ditching the disc drive in favour of card based storage and digital downloads, while other rumours suggest the move to Blu Ray disc?
Microsoft has vowed to extend the life cycle of its console product by way of software updates and partnerships with content providers.
