FAQ

Welcome to our Frenquently Asked Questions.

Hopefully you’ll find the answer to the most simple PC queries (excuse the pun)…

You will be using an email client such as Outlook Express (Windows XP), Windows Mail (Vista), Windows Live Mail or Outlook, when this was originally set up a username & password were entered in to the program, each time you start the program your username & password are sent to the email server, verified and then your email is delivered to the program for your viewing. When you see a request to enter your password this normally indicates an issue with the email server which hasn’t been able to verify the details. Don’t panic, just close he program and try again in 30 minutes, if after a couple of hours you are still unable to receive your email then contact your email provider.

This usually indicates that your broadband router has stopped working or “locked up”, on your router either press the on/off button to turn off the router or if there isn’t an on/off switch just pull the power cord out of the back of the router, leave the router for 20 seconds then turn on again or push the power cord back in, wait a further 1 minute for the router to make its connections and then try accessing your webpage again.
For BT Home Hub customers press the restart button and then wait for 1 minute.
For Virgin Media customers with a seperate modem and router, unplug both devices, wait 20 seconds, plug in the router first and wait 1 minute, then plug in the modem and wait a further 1 minute, now try accessing the webpage again.

Don’t panic, we deal with virus infections every week, turn off the PC and don’t continue to use it, give us a call and we’ll be with you as quickly as possible, we normally run 2 scans of your PC and then perform a health check, this normally takes 90 minutes and our fixed rate price is £45.

Turn off your PC immediatly! Whenever a file is deleted it will remain on the hard disk drive, however Windows can now overwrite that file, the more you use the PC the higher the risk of retrieving the file becomes. We will remove the hard drive from your PC and connect it to one of our PCs where the retrieval software will read your recently deleted files. Due to the nature of such work we cannot make any guarantees to the success of retrieving files.

Not necessarily, in 99.9% of Windows recoveries performed we can read and recover your files, a very small percentage will lose some files while an even smaller percentage lose all the data, this will occur when the hard drive physically dies. In such circumstances we can outsource the data recovery to a specialist company who will make a physical clone of your drive before proceeding to recover data, their success rates are very high, however the price is reflected for such precision work, normally £450.

In the bottom right corner of your screen at the end of the taskbar is a small button (see image below), if this is clicked all open windows will be minimised to the taskbar, but in most cases the mouse pointer has moved to that corner, when hovering over the button all open windows become transparent, just move your mouse away from that corner and your window will appear again.

That depends on “What” & “How Much” you do.
All new Windows 7 PC’s come with Microsoft Office Starter Edition, it features Word & Excel for letter writing & spreadsheets. That’s your decision, but we would advise you to use genuine cartridges, we’ve found that using them doesn’t cause issues.

Most printer queries we receive are due to compatible cartridges, they are not always guaranteed to work, the ink quality isn’t as good (sharp and long lasting), and you’ll probably void the warranty on your printer.
