XBox 360 Fall update

Posted by on 03. Dec 2007 on Gaming

Tues Dec 4th is the date for the fall update to Xbox 360, this is a really huge update with too many features to mention, so I’ll list a few of the biggies!

  • Xvid support, using media connect and Windows Home Server to stream Xvid video files, disappointment for the Media Center community as only supported by Home Server, more to come about that as Simple PC is now building and supplying Home Server packages.
  • H264, the new High Definition format is supported using Windows Media Player streaming from a connected PC. But no support for the .MKV file extension.
  • New parental controls for timed play, Sounds very much like the parental controls built into Windows Vista.
  • A new Dashboard Blade for Arcade Games with free flash games streamed and played from online, plus a price reduction in classic arcade games .
  • Classic XBox titles available to purchase and download, though no achievements will be available through these games!
  • Player profile updates let you add more info to your profile, and the option to share your friends with other online players to create larger gaming networks.
  • And a late addition (rumoured not to be included in this update) is Video Marketplace, already sucessfully running in the USA, allows you to purchase and download High Definition movies and TV. How much content will be available at launch is unknown but hopefully they’ll be a good choice, although initial thoughts are that movie downloads will be £5 which sounds a bit high to me, please reply with your thoughts to this.
