1 Monkey
While eating my breakfast one morning I notice the picture of a monkey on my cereal packet, so I decide to investigate further. If I collect 3 tokens I can then adopt a monkey for FREE! And for just £1 I can go to snapfish.com and order stickers of my monkey!
Gone are the days of little plastic toys lying at the bottom of the cereal box, now you get a monkey! Wow a real monkey! Well a picture of your monkey in your monkey pack.
So after pouring another bowl I decide to turn my attention to the side of the box and read the small print, this is where it gets real interesting.
Firstly your adoption is for 6 months only, then you have to pay, that’s fine, but how many people are going to continue their adoption? And for all those monkeys that don’t get the continued adoption, what happens to them?
A question I’ve always wondered the answer, is when you see these monkey adoptions or dog sponsorships etc. if 10,000 people send in their money, are there 10,000 dogs/monkeys that need sponsoring or are there 2000 people getting the same monkey or dog pack????? With the same picture and stickers, it not really my dog/monkey is it, it’s like buying shares, you too can own a piece of monkey!!!! I’ll take the toenail please…..
Reading further down the box I come across the most shocking clause, “1 monkey per email address”! In fact it said 1 adoption per email address, but 1 monkey sounds better. What about the parents, 3 kids, 1 email address, what’s gonna happen?
- 1 happy kid, 2 not so happy
- 3 kids share 1 monkey pack, within 3 minutes a riot breaks out over the best sticker
- The abuse of the hotmail system, quick way to abandoned email addresses and 2 more monkeys!
Is there a point to this story? NO, I just thought it was quite funny, 1 monkey per email address! We’ve got 4 email addresses between us and the option to create a lot more without abusing hotmail! I just need to eat more cereal, collect the tokens and get my monkey family, can’t stop, I’m off to the kitchen to start eating……
