Even More Chrome…..
Maybe you’ve been heading to www.google.co.uk to do your searches, cursing at Chromes lack of a search box like Internet Explorers top right corner, but then again why would the worlds most popular search provider exclude that function in their own browser, the answer is they haven’t!
The address bar, or omni box as it’s known by Google doubles as a search box, give it a go yourself, why not use my favourite search ‘sausages’, don’t ask why? I just like sausages!!!
But if you prefer another search provider don’t fear as you can specify your default provider for the omni box, head to the spanner button and click the ‘options’ link from the menu.
From the first tab ‘Basics’, you’ll see the default search section where you can choose from a list of the most popular search providers or click on the ‘manage’ button to specify your favourite.
Take a look at the Chrome blog to see some tricks to get more from the omni box.
Moving on…..
There is one feature that is still missing from Chrome that has been found in Internet Explorer since, well, forever! And that’s the email link function. A handy option to automatically add the current web page address to an email ready to send, see screenshot below:
But don’t fear, there’s a way to add this function before Google do.
If you’re using the bookmarks bar, make a right click on it and select ‘New Page’. In the window that appears:
Give your link a name such as ‘Email Link’, then in the URL: box copy and paste the following: javascript:location.href=’mailto:?SUBJECT=’+document.title+’&BODY=’+escape(location.href);
and click ok, you’ll then see the Email Link button on your bookmarks bar as below,
When you come across a website you’d like to tell your friends about just hit the ‘Email Link’ button which will open an email window with the link in the email body and the subject pre-filled with the website title, see below: ![]()
