Now you’ve got all those browsers…
Posted by Simon Salvin on 28. Sep 2009 on Internet, PCIf you followed my last post and decided to download some alternative browsers, then you may need to choose which you’d like as the default browser?
The default browser is the one that will open when you click on a link, for example in an email.
But sometimes if you use a variety of browsers you’d like a certain browser to open when you click a particular link, rather than having to copy the link, then open the browser and finally paste the link in to the address bar!
You’ll find it helpful with some of Microsoft’s sites which only want to work in it’s own Internet Explorer browser.
I came across a recommendation from Web User magazine for a great solution, ‘Browser Chooser’. This little app installs as the default browser and when clicking a link gives you a choice of your installed browsers, then just click the one you’d like to open.
In the screenshot above I’ve clicked the ‘Click here for a chance to win’ link in the HP email and now I’m presented with the browser chooser, clicking one of the logo’s will launch that browser.
If you’d like to try Browser Chooser you can download it from:
http://browserchooser.codeplex.com
Once downloaded and installed you must add in your browsers, click the Browser Chooser icon on your desktop, then add in each browser from the drop down menu, repeat the process on each tab until you’ve completed your line up. ![]()
