  • Windows 8 drops DVD playback support

    Microsoft has confirmed DVD video playback is to be dropped from Windows 8 and Windows Media Player. Support will now come from third parties such as VLC. Microsoft has decided to move to a full featured codec pack to allow playback of downloaded and streaming content.   • Galaxy Tab 2 gets UK April launch

    Samsung’s latest tablets, the Galaxy Tab 2, has finally received a launch date for the UK, with the tablets available at the end of April, delays caused by compatibility issues with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich moved the launch back from March.   • London tube live updates added to Google Maps

    Google has added London tube live updates to Google Maps. The updates can be accessed via PC, Mac or Android device (smartphone/tablet). Earlier in the year nationwide train timetables were added and just last month traffic data was added signalling further the demise of the dedicated satnav unit.
