XP Service Pack 3 – Reported Issues
Posted by Simon Salvin on 28. May 2008 on PCIt has been reported that SP3 for Windows XP has run into a few minor problems since release just a few weeks ago!
The first issue I came across was from www.wegotserved.co.uk, a website dedicated to Windows Home Server, if you own both a Windows XP machine and a home server and you like to remote connect into your server then be warned as SP3 is currently breaking this function. The second issue was passed onto me from a friend who works at my local PC World store, and this sounds a little bit more serious than the last issue, for those of you with HP or Compaq PCs that have AMD processors DO NOT install SP3. HP is currently working with Microsoft to create a fix to the issue that is crashing Windows after rebooting once installation of SP3 is complete. Attempts to work in safe mode also fail and the option to uninstall through "Add & Remove Programs" in Control Panel is unavailable, It is however possible to back up data to a portable device but will require a complete reinstallation of Windows XP. Please note this is only affecting PCs with AMD processors, Intel remains unaffected.
I will report back if I hear of a fix.
