For Skiers, Bikers or Geeks, like me!
Posted by Simon Salvin on 19. May 2009 on Geeks & Gadgets, TechnologyIf Skiing is your thing then maybe this gadget is what you’ve been looking for???
The G-Trek is a small pocket device that records GPS (satellite) data. Once you’ve finished skiing for the day, head back to your hotel and plug the G-Trek into your laptop, download the data, and the software will then overlay your journey on either Google Maps or Google Earth.
The memory holds enough data for a weeks travel and the mini USB connection is also used to charge the battery in the unit. The battery is a Nokia phone standard battery and additional batteries can be purchased with the G-Trek.
The software is a small installation and only requires .Net 2.0 (which will install from the disc if you don’t already have it) and Google Earth, a free download which the installation will take you to the website if you don’t already have this installed also.
If you have satnav on your phone then the G-Trek can be used as a GPS receiver with Bluetooth connection to your phone.
Inside the box a USB cable and in car charging unit are also supplied.
For me it’s a great way to keep a log of my mileage but for skiers or cyclists its a great way to track your routes.
You can purchase the G-Trek directly from the G-Trek website for £99.99.
