Ipod

I’ve been meaning to write about Apples latest range of Ipod’s for a while but just haven’t got around to doing it! So after a visit to the Apple shop in Boston I thought I’d give you the latest updates.

Just over a month ago Apple announced their new Ipod range and the Iphone, although we won’t see the Iphone in the UK for a while. Surprisingly around 3 minutes after the announcement the products were lined up on the shelfs ready to purchase!

So whats new??? Starting at the small end is the new Ipod Nano, the hard disk space stayed the same with 4gb & 8gb models, but this time they’ve been resized into a square rather than the usual rectangular shape and they’ve shaved down the thickness to almost nothing. The major addition and the reason for the square shape is the ability to now play video on its wide screen, although tiny the picture quality is superb!
Ipod Nano 3rd Gen Another new feature aboard all the new Ipod range is the menu in picture feature as shown in the picture, where the menu now fits half the screen size while the other half displays album art from your music.

The Ipod classic as it is now known has had the same menu revamp and a serious size upgrade, now available in 80gb and a whopping 160gb versions, and with that you can store a mega amount of music, photos & movies!!!! Obviously with such a large hard drive the 160gb model has increased in depth and weight but by only a few mm and grammes its nothing to get worried about if you’re thinking about buying one.

Last but not least is my favourite, the one I wanted to buy in Boston only to be told they’d sold out only just a few hours ago, we moved from Boston down to Cape Cod but couldn’t find an Apple store, we then moved on to Washington DC, and again couldn’t find an Apple store or retailer stocking it, this is the coolest Ipod you can own, the Ipod Touch!
Ipod Touch Available in 2 sizes, 8gb & 16gb, which you may think is a bit small, especially in comparrison with the new Classic models, but this unit houses some cool technology. First is the touch screen given away by its title! Just use your finger to navigate around the menus on this glorious large colour screen, if you want to hold it in a landscape position just turn the Ipod and it automatically senses the position and turns the screen, which is perfect for watching video. I was sold just on those features, but then I read further on the features list and possibly the coolest feature of all, it’s WiFi! you no longer need to connect it to your PC and itunes to be able to buy & download your favourite music, infact itunes is built into the Ipod, just connect to any open wireless hotspot!

Unfortunately I had to return to the UK empty handed and although I can easily walk in to town and buy one of these today I don’t want to pay the premium we have to pay for living in the UK, thats £50 extra, rip off Britain not going to beat me this time, I’m back in the states in April and I won’t be coming back empty handed!
