Java 6 Update 12
Posted by Simon Salvin on 17. Mar 2009 on TechnologyThere’s been quite a few updates to the Java plug-in in the last 6 months or so. This morning when opening my browser I was presented with another new update, this time update 12.
Its not something I would normally write about but this update was slightly different. It downloaded in the normal way & looked like the previous update engine, but this time it replaced the previous update, something that Java hasn’t previously done. Maybe something that you’ve never noticed, but head over to control panel > Add and Remove programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (Vista) and if you’ve been updating your Java for the last couple of years you should notice a long list of Java updates. In fact each update is a new installation and doesn’t require the previous installation, so for good house keeping purposes the older installations can be removed, and thus how I stumbled across this new feature.
So once you’ve cleaned up your installs and installed the latest version you’re all set for future updates without the house keeping duties.
But while you’re there cleaning up those Java’s why not have a good clean, remove any unwanted or unneeded programs, you’ll feel so much better for it and your PC might too!
