Live facelift, Office and more plug-ins
Posted by Simon Salvin on 20. Mar 2009 on Internet, PC, TechnologyMicrosoft’s collection of FREE software with online services has had a facelift recently with updates for Messenger, Mail, Writer & Photo Gallery with the introduction of the Office plug-in. Office Live Spaces is an online storage facility with the capability to share and collaborate on documents, with the new Office plug-in you are able to open and save documents directly to your Live Space.
Microsoft, a few years back scrapped the integration of Hotmail into Outlook Express unless taking a paid subscription service. Now this has been reintroduced FREE of charge in 2 ways, firstly with Live Mail, a desktop program that replaces Outlook Express (Windows XP) or Windows Mail (Vista), which reads Hotmail or Live Mail as it is now known along with any POP3 accounts, each account is also split into its own folder group on the left hand pane, great if you have personal and business email accounts.
Secondly Microsoft has also realised that Outlook users stretch beyond that of the corporate business and that users may also require integration of Live Mail within Outlook. The Outlook Connector plug-in adds a drop down menu in Outlook enabling you to login to your Live/Hotmail account which then adds the folders beneath your POP or Exchange folders in the left column. See screen shot below:
There’s been updates to all the Microsoft Live programs, just run the installer and choose the programs you’d like to install, any Live programs that are already installed will be updated, download the installer here: http://download.live.com/
