Lost internet for ZA users

If you have Zone Alarm Internet Security you may have noticed the loss of internet connection, if so you’ll most probably be reading this on someone else’s PC.
A recent Windows update for XP has caused the Zone Alarm Firewall cut net access, fortunately Zone Labs has released a fix for this issue, but to receive the fix you need to download it! If you’ve already received the the Windows update then you may think that you’re stuck?
Fear not because net access can be resumed in just a few clicks. Open Zone Alarm by clicking the icon in the system tray (bottom right of screen) or from Start > Programs > Zone Alarm. In the left column of the ZA window click on Firewall. You will see 2 boxes with sliders that moves up and down, the first box is the Internet Zone Security box, this is what we need to change, it should be currently set to the High position, pull the slider down to the Medium position, net access is now resumed.
Now in the left hand column click the Overview button and then on the right hand side click on the Preferences tab, you will now see a Check for Product Updates button, click this, you will now be alerted that an update is available, click the button to download now and you’ll be taken to the ZA website, click the link to download the update and save it to your desktop, once the download has completed double click on the file on the desktop to start the update. Once this has completed you’ll be asked to restart the PC, when everything has loaded up, open ZA again and go back to Firewall and the Slider and move it back to the High position. You are now fully protected and ready to surf the net once again.
If you haven’t been affected, I’d recommend you download and install the update to ensure a trouble free surfing experience (if there is such a thing?).
If this fix daunts you, as usual I’ll be on hand to do this for you, just give me a call.
As yet I haven’t come across this issue for Vista users, but if you have please let me know.
