More Avast
Posted by Simon Salvin on 27. Jan 2009 on TechnologyFollowing on from my last post regarding Avast Anti Virus, I’ve now had my subscription for around a month now, taking the family pack to ensure my home server was protected seemed like a great idea but how was I going to use all 10 PC licenses? For those of you who’ve followed my recent virtualisation posts, there’s the answer.
The most surprising element for me this evening was to find out that Linux installations were covered by Avast, so I downloaded the DEB installer package which automated the install without the need for coding the install to start. You may ask yourself if anti virus is really required on a Linux install, much like the claims of the Apple OS, but in reality times are changing and security is of upmost importance, as market shares grow for alternative operating systems virus’s are now being written and showing their ugly head!
I’ve also installed Avast on my Virtual XP machine and my new Windows 7 beta Virtual machine (more to come on that later!), along with my 2 PC’s and the 2 loan PC’s soon to be installed, and I still have 3 licenses to play with!
