On the move again!
No not moving house, don’t want to do that just yet, we must have moved at least 4 or 5 times in the last 10 years and what a pain in the ass that can be!!!
Its internet provider moving time again, you may have read my post a couple of months ago when after nearly 3 years of constant billing problems with Bulldog I decided to move to BT on their business contract, well 2 months later and I’ve moved again! BT decided to cap my download speeds without notifying me, when enquiring as to why my speeds were slow, it took them 24 hours to tell me that I’d been downloading too much! They now want me to pay the remaining 21 months of the 2 year contract, the speeds had been capped that much it was little better than dial up at times, and when it was working at capacity it wasn’t exactly great! So BT gets my name and shame this time, and as for paying the remaining contract, I DON’T THINK SO!!!!!!!
Moan over, that brings me to the question thats been asked for a few years now, Unlimited broadband? with a fair usage policy? How can it be Unlimited? And what is fair usage? Who decides that? And why is it different for every provider? Surely it should be set as an industry standard? or in my book, should be scrapped altogether!!!!
One of BT’s new phrases is “Traffic Shaping”. “What the hell is this?” I hear you say. Well it means the exchange is overloaded, such as our local exchange being in the city, the amount of data traffic is immense! So to ensure everyones speeds remain constant they cap speeds during peak times, and thus rendering the term Unlimited useless!!!!!!!!
As I’ve said before, every ISP has their horror stories and their praises sung so it really is pot luck when choosing your provider, all we can do is choose the best offer and hope for the best! If you have a good or a bad provider, leave a comment on this post and let all the readers know.
