Pain in the BUM!

What a week! 4 jobs, 2 products, 4 problems!
We’ll start with McAfee Internet Security, this thing just sucks life out of a PC, and if your PC isn’t overly powerful then you might as well give up! 2 uninstalls this week, replaced with Avast and the PC’s have sprung to life.

The first was a printer issue, every print job sent was replied with a Lexmark message on screen and vocally telling me the computer could not communicate with the printer. I must have spent 5 hours on this, stripping the drivers, reinstalling, configuring ports, screaming, crying, laughing, begging, anything and everything I could think of, but I never thought to uninstall McAfee, until the last dying minute before everything flew out of the window. Amazingly I restarted the PC, clicked ‘Test Print’ and a few seconds later the sheet of paper shot through the printer displaying an array of black and colour info.

The second machine was full of Spyware and Viruses, not even Malware Bytes could save this machine, they had dug themselves in and again after a few hours of my best efforts the machine just crashed and looped in non starting hell! It was nice to see McAfee and done such a sterling job in protecting the PC from this onslaught of Spyware pressure, I was quizzed by the owner as to why McAfee had failed? Quite simple, it’s pants! Cut your losses on the subscription and install a worthy product.
If you could see a virus entering a PC, it would be like someone tapping McAfee on the shoulder and when it turned round the virus would walk round McAfee in the other direction, far too easy!!! Once again uninstalled.

The next problems were with routers, both Netgear routers, both dead out of the box! Trust my luck, 2 in a week! The first was a cable router, all the lights on just not broadcasting a wireless signal, disappointingly I had purchased this 6 months earlier as part of a bulk buy and it was the last router left sat on my shelf, even though the router had only seen a few minutes of daylight out of its box, dabs didn’t see it the same way and insisted it be sent back to Netgear for repair, they sent a courier to collect the goods who claimed to attempt the collection, although no card was left and I had been home at the alleged time of collection, now dabs don’t offer telephone customer service so I had to use the messaging service and type my frustrations to the advisor who may as well have been a robot, because she certainly got out of bed on the wrong side that morning, stating I hadn’t been home for the collection I would have to pay for the goods to be returned, after a good 30 minutes I eventually squeezed the information I required from her tightly clenched typing fingers and proceeded to contact the courier who politely said “No problem sir, we’ll have it collected this afternoon”, strange how I would have to pay again through dabs????? I look forward to receiving my new router, because I’m sure Netgear aren’t going to take the time to repair it! And I’ll be very surprised if they do!

The second router was an ADSL modem router, this time purchased from amazon. This was completely dead out of the box, it’s a shame because I now have to return again to complete the job, but the customer service difference between amazon and dabs is wider than the Grand Canyon! Online, clicked into my account, return an item, yes please, click, print return labels, click, hand it in at post office.
And the best bit, we’ll send a replacement immediately, just post back the faulty item within 30 days, postage paid!!!!!

Then again dabs is owned by BT! Says it all really.
