Paying too much???
Once again speeds are the topic here, but this time money is involved aswell. I was asked by a customer why their broadband connection seemed slow? On further investigation they were receiving a 512kbps connection in an area which could receive a maximum of 4mbps (8x the speed), and most suprisingly they were paying £24.99 per month!!!! It occured to me that many people out their are falling into this trap, signing up for a broadband package 3 or 4 years ago and still receiving the same! But these broadband deals are just like mobile phones or gas and electricity suppliers, you need to shop around for the best deal. Understandably ISP’s (Internet Service Providers) may tie you into a 12 month contract, but even so it may be possible to change to another package that the ISP offers within that contract, remember they will continually be offering new and better packages.
What many people don’t realise is that their ISP isn’t going to tell them about these great new packages! And I’ve seen some very suprised customers, it’s not in the ISP’s interest to tell you these things, why increase your broadband speed and charge you less??? They’re making more money from you, it may be a harsh reality but it is your responsibility to challenge your ISP for the best deal.
Many people believe that its hard to change supplier, that the connection will be cut off and you’ll be without your broadband for days until your new supplier takes over, but thats not the case. If you are wanting to change you can request a MAC code from your ISP, this is a migration code, give this to your intended new supplier and the migration takes place, the connection may be lost for a couple of hours on the day of transfer but its a little to ask, especially if its going to save you alot of money.
I’ve now taken it upon myself to check that my customers are receiving the best deal and it’s quite amazing how many of you are getting the raw deal!
If you’re reading this and alarm bells are ringing then head over to www.top10-broadband.co.uk , enter your postcode and telephone number and you’ll be presented with a small map detailing your house and the telephone exchange, next to which is the distance info between the two and the maximum broadband speed you can receive through an ADSL telephone line connection. If you’re going to use Virgin Media Cable the speeds will be different as they use a fibre optic nextwork and don’t rely on telephone broadband.
Underneath this info you’ll see the best deals of the moment from the providers who can supply to your area, so you don’t need to worry about completing details to only find they don’t supply to your area!
If you’re happy with your provider then there’s no reason why you should change but you may be spending too much money, either log in to your account on their webpage and see if you can change your product to a better deal or pick up the phone and give them a call.
If you’ve been paying £25 a month for just your broadband (yes I have seen it!) take a look around, you could end up with a deal for line rental, broadband and and call package for the same amount! Don’t delay, get that deal today!!!
