Computer Active Magazine
I find it quite difficult to find a good PC magazine I can read from cover to cover. They tend to be business orientated and quite heavy reading talking about servers, servers and £5000 PC’s, or for the beginner, or just tend to concentrate on perticular software. I’d like to read a mag that sits somewhere in the middle of all those 3, I guess I’ll have to keep dreaming, maybe one day???

But as you know, I like to have a moan about things and I’ve found an absolute peach!

It’s time to name and shame again, this time it’s Computer Active magazine, a fortnightly publication for PC basics and beginners. I like to have a read of this every now and again, not for the articles but for the letters, there are 3 letter categories, the first looks at consumer advice, solving the publics outcry at poor service and broken machines, then there’s PC problems and general letters with each category holding its entertainment value.

But the real issue I have is the cover article on their latest release, issue 243, titled: Broadband First Aid, How to: Find and fix problems with your internet connection.

9 lines into the article and its all summed up “There’s not much you can do to the connection between your broadband modem or router and the wider internet, and in most cases it’s worth contacting your provider’s helpline”.

I’m sure many people have bought the magazine from the cover article in hope of fixing a broadband issue to then flick to page 14 and be told to call the helpline of their internet provider, Computer Active, NO!!!!!!!!!!!! The next 4 pages don’t help solve anything, it just explains how broadband works, be more careful how you promote your cover articles!!!!

And while I’m having a moan about computer active I might as well get it all off my chest,  please look at more computer manufacturers when reviewing PC’s, every time I buy your magazine its Gateway, Mesh or Evesham that gets a review, either all your staff like those 3 manufacturers or they’re paying you alot of money to promote their brand, STOP IT!
