PS3 Update
Only a month or two after launch Sony has released 2 Firmware updates for the PS3, the first was available at launch updating the system from version 1.6 to 1.7 to give playback compatibility of Playstation 2 games, now currently supporting well in excess of 1000 PS2 games.
The latest update is version 1.8 and the major additions are the music streaming compatibility with PC’s running Windows Media Player 11 & DVD upscaling playback. Upscaling is a conversion process to output standard DVD’s at High Definition resolution giving a new lease of life to your DVD collection, of course you’ll need a HD ready TV and an HDMI cable connecting the two, I recommend the QED Qunex HDMI cables, around £40 for 1m.
If you have a PS3, it can be connected to the internet through a router with either a cable or wirelessly, the updates can then be downloaded directly to the console. You can also download the update from the PS3 support website, burn it to CD and run the CD in your console, instructions are available in your console documentation or on the PS3 support website. If you’re not sure how to go about the upgrades just drop me an email and I’ll be happy to help
And on the note of gaming, Tomb Raider Anniversary has just been released for PS2 and PC, reports now state that the game will be available for Xbox 360 via download from the Xbox Marketplace, currently rumoured to be released in level stages, unfortunately there’s no news on pricing!
