Router set up with a Spoon???

Posted by on 21. Jun 2008 on PC, Technology

Last week I came across a set up woe I hadn’t planned or intended for. On my initial visit to the customers house I duly noted where the telephone socket was placed and went on to give her laptop the once over in preparation for her new broadband service.

On arriving back at the property a week later I quickly noticed I had made a mistake in planning for the placement of the router. Initially I had noted the location of the telephone socket and below that was a small table strangely enough with a telephone on it!!!
In my moment of madness I must have assumed there was an electrical socket behind the table, this time though the table had been moved and the telephone lay on the floor with a bare wall behind it.
The electrical socket was in fact on the next wall only a few feet away, just one problem, a door between the 2 points?

So after checking how long the power cord and the telephone cord were, this decided whether the router would be placed nearer to the power socket or the phone socket, this time the power socket won. So all I had to do was get the telephone cable across the door space. Out comes the teaspoon and using the handle end allowed me to push the cable under the door strip. I’m sure you’ve heard or seen this before, maybe with a screw driver, I just find the screw driver a bit more dangerous if you slip, spoons do hurt – just not as much!

I’ll make sure there’s a spoon in my toolbox for future jobs.
