XP Service Pack 3
Posted by Simon Salvin on 12. May 2008 on PC, TechnologyI’m a little bit late with this one, it’s been available for just over a week now. I knew it was to arrive soon but it took me by suprise when I checked the Windows update site during a job this week. I’ve had the RC release installed on my XP virtual PC for a while, it installed and ran smoothly with no issues to report.
This is the last service pack to be released for XP and really doesn’t offer a great deal new to the operating system. It contains all the previous updates so if you’ve missed any its worth the download. There is also a small number of new features added but nothing I noticed on face value.
None the less if you are still using XP you should go ahead and download the service pack, head to the windows update website – Click Start – All Programs – Windows Update. Follow the prompts and you’ll be presented with the option to update, depending on the speed of your machine this should be completed within 30 minutes to 1 hour.

You can download and read an overview of the service pack here.
If you’ve previously installed a testing version of the service pack, like me, then you’ll need to uninstall this before heading to the update website to install the finished item.
I have over the last week updated 2 or 3 machines, you may find that you’ll need to choose the “Install other updates” option before attempting the service pack update, I had to do this before it would install.
As usual, need any help, give me a call
